Now the dust is settling and AMs are catching up on some sleep, the first moves are being made by Labour towards a coalition deal to run the Assembly Government and its £14bn budget.
There are two options for Rhodri Morgan - cwtch up to the Lib Dems (again) or consider a dalliance with Plaid Cymru.
Option 1: The Lib Dems
Labour pros: They have done the deal before in 2000-03, even if it left some Labour AMs furious at Lib Dems claims that they in fact ran the government. May be more acceptable to Peter Hain, Valleys Labour, and Labour AMs for whom Plaid Cymru are the 'Daffodil Tories'.
Labour Cons:
Some Lib Dems may dig their heels in over demands for PR in local government elections after they were 'stitched up' over an independent commission in the last partnership deal. Labour don't do PR in council elections.
Option 2: Plaid Cymru
Labour pros: Seen as a 'more mature' alternative to the Lib Dems after saving Labour bacon over the Assembly Budget. Some reports suggest 'senior Labour figures' find Plaid more acceptable than the Lib Dems, especially if a deal could be swung without Plaid ministers in the cabinet.
Labour cons:
It's the Nationalists innit.
Option 3:
Let the so-called Raindow Coalition take charge and go into opposition.
Labour Pros:
Let the others mess up then come charging to the rescue.
Labour Cons:
Probably requires a different Labour leader to Rhodri Morgan. The others might actually get their act together. Means Labour aren't in power.
Verdict:
1. Possible with Lib Dem co-operation.
2. Less appealing to Labour AMs.
3. No. A 'spit the dummy out' last resort for a group with 'by far the largest' number of AMs.

Ah, but it seems the Lib Dems aren't too keen on the idea after all...
