UPDATE: Sunday: Former Welsh Lib Dem leader Lembit Opik appeared to almost lament his surprise decision to stand down from the role last autumn.
Entering a debate on the party's constitution, he told delegates: "In the old days I had 25 minutes and you had to give me a standing ovation.
"I had five minutes for the financial appeal and we didn't even have any buckets for the collection."
The conference spent an hour debating an internal constitutional review and new rules for a leadership election, with two appeals for a 'reference back' and a raft of amendments.
A 24-18 vote fell short of a required two-thirds majority, forcing the issues on to a general review of the constitution to report by the autumn. One of the joys of liberal democracy.
::Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg has just finished speaking at the party's Welsh conference at Venue Cymru.
He was 'just a teenager' when former Lib Dem leader David Steel made his infamous speech in Llandudno, enthusing delegates to 'Go back to your constituencies and prepare for Government!'
"With the wisdom of hindsight, perhaps David was a little impatient. I think preparations have lasted a little longer than he imagined," Mr Clegg said.
He aimed to invoke the Liberal radical tradition, while denouncing 100 years of Labour dominance in Wales.
He said: "Three hundred years ago, working people rose up and died because they wanted democracy so badly. Now we have it, their ancestors take pride in their apathy."
Did he say 'ancestors', surely he meant 'descendants'.
Either way he credited the original idea to a 'powerful' lecture by Brecon AM Kirsty Williams.
He also appeared to have lifted the idea of the rival Reds, Blues and Greens in Wales melding into a 'soggy grey consensus.' from Ms Williams who must be delighted with such support from her leader.
::Lib Dems are being offered training at the conference in using high technology to organise and campaign, making the most of the internet, or campaigning with your mobile phone.
One session was entitled, "Don't be the next Peter Hain: How to stay on the right side of the law with your Party finances." Surely in all 'fairness', a man is innocent till proven guilty.
:: Conwy council cabinet member Mike Priestley addressed a pre-conference rally telling the faithful: "I could talk rubbish all night." Well, he does have responsibility for waste disposal. North Wales AM Eleanor Burnham introduced him as the 'high priest of recycling'.
::Welsh Lib Dem leader Mike German is due to start his keynote speech at 2.30pm. Has anyone told him that the Wales v Italy game kicks off at 3pm and there is a TV showing the game within a short drop kick from the podium?
He finished the speech at 3.02pm, prompting something of an exodus from the hall.

Hain may not have been charged with a criminal offence under the PPERA, but he himself has admitted errors in not submitting returns.
